Complete Catalogue of Works

This works list uses a numbering system for Moeran's output which corresponds with the order of composition. In some cases there is a degree of approximation and overlap, as the composer did not work in a strictly linear manner!

Note that no's R98 onwards are works that are as yet undated, though those which have publishing dates are noted. I suggest that if this numbering system is adopted the numbers be prefaced with the letter R, as an alternatively numbered, non-sequential list is printed in Geoffrey Self's book. Dating and ordering is based largely on the listing published by Geoffrey Self and the additional research of Barry Marsh as shown in his Chronology.

UNPUBLISHED WORKS - The majority of the works marked here as *unpublished did finally make it onto the printed page with the Thames Centenary Edition, following the meticulous research of John Talbot, who transcribed original manuscripts and also made several corrections to other published material. For further details of these pieces and the Centenary Edition click here.
R58 (An April Evening) has thus far only turned up as a reference in Radio Times - see the Chronology.
R48 (Maltworms) was never published in its original full score, which was lost, but certainly was published with piano accompaniment.
R28 (Overture) contains material which was later adapted for the Symphony in G minor (R71).
R64 (Farrago Suite) formed four movements, with slight adaptation, of the Serenade in G (R95).
